TUSSEN DE TIJD (Between Time) was the title of a major retrospective exhibition of my work in 2010 at Museum Rijswijk. This exhibition coincided with the publication of a monograph of the same name and the presentation of a multiple entitled TEARS. This monograph contains numerous images and an introduction by Sandra Spijkerman. I conducted research at the Audax Textile Museum in Tilburg for the multiple, which was also produced there. For the exhibition, I created a remake of the 1984 piece 'Transparante Herinneringen' (Transparent Memories). I also exhibited the embroidery 'Le Cordon Ombilical', the relief 'The Woman of the Map', and the mixed media work 'Tussen de Tijd' (Between Time).

Tussen de tijd (Between Time)
In my mind, I walk with my father through the city streets. The past is sometimes closer than recent things. Between two seconds, I experience an hour. Time can stretch like elastic. I try to grasp something that cannot be grasped. I try to organise feelings, connect memories and make connections as if it were an 'electro game’*.
*A pre-computer game in which you manually connected dots. When the connection was correct, a light came on.

De Naam en het Land
(The Name and the Land)
Among all the names in Auschwitz was the name my father gave me, written in different ways. My aunt Ellie confirmed the facts, but we never talked about it at home. Before she was interned in a Japanese camp, my mother tore photos out of her albums. She stored them in a biscuit tin and gave it to a Chinese family she knew for safekeeping: small, black-and-white or sepia photos with jagged edges. Nine pieces 52x340x8cm (35x24cm every textile part),photoprint, embroidery and mixed media.
